✨ 분사구문(Participial Construction) 완전 정리
영어 문장을 보다 자연스럽고 깔끔하게 만들어주는 문법이 바로 분사구문이다.
긴 절을 짧은 구로 바꿔서 문장을 부드럽게 연결할 수 있다.
✔️ 1. 분사구문이란?
분사구문은 주절(메인 문장)의 주어와 같은 주어를 가진 절을 분사 형태(-ing / p.p)로 줄인 표현이다.
쉽게 말하면,
부사절을 짧게 줄인 표현
이라고 보면 된다.
✔️ 2. 분사구문 공식
▶ 능동 의미 → V-ing
- 주어가 어떤 행동을 직접 하고 있을 때 사용
- 부사절(when, while, because 등)을 생략하고 분사만 남긴 것
▶ 수동 의미 → p.p
- 주어가 어떤 행동을 당한 상태일 때 사용

🔹 (1) 시간 관계
When + S + V → V-ing, S + V
예문
- When he arrived at the station, he called me.
→ Arriving at the station, he called me.
(역: 역에 도착해서 그는 전화했다.) - When finished, the work will be checked again.
→ Finished, the work will be checked again.(역: 끝나면 그 일은 다시 점검될 것이다.)
🔹 (2) 이유(원인)
Because + S + V → V-ing, S + V
예문
- Because she was tired, she went to bed early.
→ Being tired, she went to bed early.
(역: 피곤해서 일찍 잠자리에 들었다.) - Because it was damaged, the door wouldn’t open.
- → Damaged, the door wouldn’t open.(역: 손상돼서 문이 열리지 않았다.)

If + S + V → V-ing, S + V

두 동작이 동시에 일어날 때

(역: 그녀는 음악을 들으며 길을 걸었다.) - He sat on the sofa, reading a book.
(역: 그는 소파에 앉아 책을 읽었다.)
✔️ 4. 주어가 다르면? (중요!)
분사구문의 주어는 반드시 주절의 주어와 같아야 한다.
다르면 분사 앞에 명시적으로 주어를 써준다. → '독립분사구문'
예문
- The weather being cold, we stayed home.
(날씨가 추워서 우리는 집에 있었다.) - Dinner finished, they left the restaurant.
(저녁 식사를 마치고 그들은 식당을 떠났다.)
